How many jobs have been created by the styrene industry?

Styrene is produced and used all across the United States and around the world. The states that contribute the largest numbers of jobs related to producing styrene and styrene-based products include Ohio, California, Texas, Louisiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, and New Jersey. Across the country, approximately 5,000 manufacturing plants produce styrene or fabricate styrene-based products, equating to about 253,000 jobs. Many operations that use styrene are small, local manufacturing businesses that have been mainstays of their local communities for many years.

What is styrene’s impact on the economy?

A $32 Billion Industry

In the United States, the diversified styrene industry as a whole is an approximately $32 billion industry and has an annual industry payroll exceeding $18 billion. Every year, the styrene industry contributes tax revenues of more than $7 billion.
